Originating in China, acupuncture is a system of integrative medicine that involves puncturing the skin with needles. It is used to alleviate pain and to treat various physical, mental, and emotional conditions. Various practitioners have other modalities to help further the effectiveness of their treatments such as: acupressure (no piercing of skin), tuning forks/vibrational therapy, cupping, herbal medicines and supplements, and so forth.
